Egyptian, hieroglyphic style deck structured, as many such "traditional" Egyptian decks, around more of a sequential numbering system than a majors/minors division. The first twenty-two cards correspond with the "standard" major arcana; the remaining fifty-six are simply numbered 23 through 78, and do not use suit divisions or court cards. The bright colors and "popping" golds capture the eye, but may be over the top for some tastes. Published in 1979 by Elf and Dragons Press. The deck has a pronounced Female power oriented theme. It consists of 86 Illustrated cards and four blank cards. Most of the cards have Black & White Line Drawings, though some of the cards are Photographs. And some of them are Landscape oriented instead of Portrait. To complicate things even more, there are two different versions of some of the cards – some with the same Titles and others with different titles! However, the complete traditional Tarot sequence is here (and more), with (mostly) the same names for the Majors and (mostly) similar to the standard suits for the Minors. Cards are about 5.5” x 3.5”; cardstock is a bit thin. Cards are in Excellent condition. There is no Box, so I will include a Pouch for the deck. A rare find indeed, and a genuine collector's Item! As explained by the extra card included with the deck: "I seems likely that most of the Vieville deck was engraved using a positive sheet as a guide rather than the usual practice of tracing a negative copy. The image would thus appear backwards when printed. This analysis is disputed by some, but a definitive answer is unlikely to emerge. Here is an adapted version (marked in one corner) in which the Vieville trumps have, by in large, been reversed to provide their mirror image.
